Torrential Precipitation Exacerbate Circumstances for Displaced Palestinians in Gaza, UN Caution
Persistent precipitation over the last seven days have compounded the precarious circumstances of the vast number of displaced Palestinians in the region, according to relief organizations.
"Awful" Weather Brings Severe Threats
A spokesman described the weather overnight as "horrendous", with downpours so intense that up to 15cm (6in) of water gathered on the terrain.
"Last night was exceptionally horrendous for the families. The heavy rains were so intense... And the winds were so powerful," said the spokesperson.
Officials express grave anxiety that minors living in tents in wet attire will contract hypothermia and various ailments.
Fatalities and Widespread Destruction
The health ministry have reported that one baby has succumbed from hypothermia and at least 11 other people have died in roof cave-ins caused by the severe weather.
Other reports suggest a higher death toll. Authorities reported that multiple structures had totally fallen and scores had collapsed partially.

Assistance Distribution Considered Insufficient
Groups have escalated deliveries of shelter, warm covers and clothing after the truce began, but they have said there is remains not enough aid reaching those in need.
"Agencies are operating tirelessly to bring in that relief and to distribute it, but the magnitude of the necessities is so vast that we still have many thousands of people and children who are really suffering each evening," cautioned one spokesperson.
Future Issues and Truce Provisions
The next stage of the ceasefire involves arrangements for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with political arrangements, the withdrawal of military forces, and other conditions.
Relief organizations have underscored the necessity for "expanded and ongoing relief to address pressing and future requirements."
The war was initiated by an offensive in October 2023. Later military operations have resulted in a high number of fatalities in the territory, according to medical figures.
