Shoaib Bashir Earns Unexpected Inclusion in England's Test Series Team

England have opted for a 12-man selection just 48 hours ahead of the opening Test match, with Shoaib Bashir earning a unexpected spot.

Bashir's inclusion indicates that the visiting team will delay until the morning of the first Test to decide whether Perth Stadium pitch favor a pace-heavy attack or the addition of a spin bowler.

Jofra Archer and Mark Wood are included in the selected group, showing there are no concerns about either fast bowler's fitness.

Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse complete the attack, with Carse expected to miss out if the spinner makes the starting XI.

Pitch Factors Favor Seamers

The England coach had been anticipated to opt for an pace-only lineup on a ground that has staged several past matches.

During these games, the majority of dismissals have fallen to pace bowling, with only a small number to spin.

Of those 40 wickets, Australia’s Nathan Lyon has claimed 29, while overseas slow bowlers combined have just a handful.

At a venue renowned for its pace and bounce, and whose curator, Isaac McDonald, stated that these characteristics are “permanent and not going to change,” a team loaded with fast bowlers is still the probable choice.

Alternative Choices Considered

There had been rumors that Will Jacks could be brought into the team to provide some spin while additionally bolstering the lower order.

But the coach has opted to keep faith with the young spinner, having said previously that he would be his first-choice slow bowler for the series.

In July, Nathan Lyon described Bashir as “decent,” saying that “in my eyes, the experienced spinner is still the English top slow bowler.”

“This is a massive role, and it can be a significant test for bowlers who haven’t done it in the previous in these conditions,” he said of spin bowling in matches Down Under.

“I’m not going to reveal my strategies so opponents come out and perform well out here.”
