Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was natural for doubts to be asked about his position following another heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the team's worst run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received a lot of support from management,” Slot stated.
“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I accept my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “During our regular exchanges I feel the trust. However I've not talked to them since this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Problems and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a phase like this with performances so bad.”
He finished, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to the top, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
